We are delighted to have been awarded the Investors in the Environment (iiE) Green Award for the third year running for our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and for continuous ongoing improvements. What is iiE? Investors in the Environment (iiE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme. It has been designed to help organisations save time and money, reduce their impact on the environment, and get promoted for their green credentials. They provide all the help, support, and networking needed to make organisations greener and ensure you get recognition for your eco initiatives. Members’ achievements are highlighted at events, and promoted through e-newsletters and as online articles and case studies. Upon successful implementation of the iiE criteria, members are awarded with the recognised stamp of certification. The iiE scheme is unique because organisations must achieve a minimum 2% improvement in resource efficiency over an agreed baseline figure, to secure green accreditation. Other criteria include having a recycling system in place, adopting a travel plan, calculating your organisational carbon footprint and setting targets for carbon reduction. Accreditations Available The iiE accreditation scheme has been created to help offer proof that a business has implemented an effective environmental management plan with the goal of reducing their environmental impact. The step-by-step approach within each accreditation level allows businesses to set achievable targets and establish a pathway of continual improvement. To help recognise and reward businesses for their efforts towards becoming more environmentally friendly, the iiE have created 3 different awards: Green Silver Bronze The ‘Green Award’ is the highest achievable level within the iiE and we are absolutely delighted to have achieved this standard for the third consecutive year. As well as offering a high quality window film installation service, WF Glazing Protection also offer a wide range of films which are available on a DIY basis. Should you wish to apply your chosen window film yourself, we have created an easy to follow guide which has been designed to highlight the steps which must be followed in order to achieve a perfect application. How To Successfully Apply Window Film The good news is that applying window film is a relatively simple process and regardless of the type of window film that you have purchased, the process is likely to be very similar. Before starting, there are a few snippets of information which are important to note. Window film is a very thin sheet of material that requires careful handling Creasing and folding the film should be avoided to prevent damage or permanently ‘marking’ the film. Preparation and film application need to be carried out in a draught and dust free environment Preparation and pre-cleaning are vitally important and care must be taken to flush any dirt particles out of the window frame post cleaning. Some airborne dust may get under the film but this is difficult to avoid completely and its presence will not affect the performance of the film. It is also important to note that there are a few circumstances under which applications are not recommended. These include: When the temperatures are below 8°C or when outside temperatures are below 0°C When applications are intended for rough or cast class surfaces To any surface that curves in two directions   Before starting, there are a number of essential tools that you will need to make the task easier. These include: Spray bottle [...]

Top Tips To Help Keep Cool in a Heat Wave

By |2018-03-07T10:41:52+00:00September 7th, 2016|Latest News|Comments Off on Top Tips To Help Keep Cool in a Heat Wave

We know that we are close to leaving the summer behind but part of the beauty of the British weather is that we never know what is around the corner. Should the weather take another turn for the better and leave us scrambling for the suncream, the following article published by our friends at My Glazing could prove to be very handy! 1. Keep curtains and blinds closed The simplest way to avoid the heat of the sun is to block it out. Close any curtains and blinds on the sun-exposed side of your home – and remember that this side may change throughout the day. 2. Avoid generating heat & humidity When the mercury rises, it may be advisable to shelve those plans for an oven roast and opt for a cold salad instead. Similarly, cover pans on the stovetop and take shorter showers to avoid increasing your home’s humidity through the generation of steam. 3. Set trickle ventilators to the open position With the sun’s heat dissipating at the end of the day, it’s natural to want to let the cooler night air into your home and even to leave windows open overnight. In this case it is important to make sure security latches are set, or if you have trickle ventilators to simply verify these are in the open position – allowing cool air to flow in while maintaining the security of a closed window. 4. Use high efficiency lighting The light bulbs in your home give off heat as well as light. Fluorescent and LED light bulbs generate significantly less heat than incandescent bulbs, so switching to these can make a real difference. 5. Open windows to create airflow Opening windows [...]
